Gas Tariff & Slab Rates 2026

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) determines the gas tariff in Pakistan. Prices are split into Protected and Non-Protected categories based on your winter consumption.

The "12-Month Lock" Rule:

Your status (Protected or Non-Protected) is decided ONLY by your average usage during the 4 winter months (Nov-Feb). Once decided, this status applies to your bill for the entire year (March to October included).

CategoryCriteria (Winter Avg)Rate / MMBTUFixed Monthly Charge
ProtectedBelow 0.9 hm³Rs. 200 - Rs. 350Rs. 600
Non-Protected0.9 to 1.5 hm³Rs. 500 - Rs. 1,450Rs. 1,500 (usage up to 1.5 hm³)
Non-ProtectedAbove 1.5 hm³High ConsumptionRs. 1,900 - Rs. 4,200Rs. 3,000 (usage exceeds 1.5 hm³)

Real Life Example: The "Summer Trap"

Scenario: You used too much gas in January (Winter) and lost your Protected Status.

Result in July (Summer): You barely use any gas in July (e.g., only 0.3 hm³). However, because your status is locked as Non-Protected, you will STILL be charged the Non-Protected Fixed Charge (Rs. 1,500+) and Non-Protected rates.

This is why gas bills remain high in summer for many consumers.

What is hm³ in Gas Bill?

hm³ stands for Hecto Cubic Meters. It is the standard unit used by Sui Gas companies (SNGPL & SSGC) to measure the volume of gas you have consumed. This is converted to MMBTU (Million British Thermal Units) using the GCV (Gross Calorific Value) to calculate your final bill amount.

How to calculate hm³ in gas bill from meter reading?

To calculate your hm³ manually:
1. Take your Present Meter Reading.
2. Subtract your Previous Meter Reading (found on your last bill).
3. The difference is your raw gas consumption. Depending on your meter type, you divide this difference by 100 to get your consumption in hm³.

What is Rebate Adjustment in Gas Bill?

A Rebate Adjustment is a deduction or discount on your total bill. This usually happens if you were accidentally overcharged in a previous month, or if you qualify for a specific government subsidy. If you see a rebate, your payable amount decreases.
